Telling Our Story: Why Girl Scouts Sell Cookies

Girl Scout Cookies are on sale in the Greater Washington Region. Girl Scouts are taking orders now for delivery of cookies starting Feb 6. Girl Scout Cookie booths outside local stores will run from February 22 - March 24. Each box of Girl Scout Cookies cost $4 with all proceeds staying in the Greater Washington Region to support local Girl Scout activities.

What started as a bake sale in 1917 has grown into the largest girl-led entrepreneurial business in the nation. Last year in the Greater Washington Region, over 4.5 million boxes of Girl Scout Cookies were sold. Proceeds from the sale are used to support local troop activities like travel and community service projects; and to maintain Girl Scout camps, develop programs and provide financial assistance.

The Greater Washington Region sells eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies baked by Little Brownie Bakers: Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Savannah Smiles, Dulce de Leche and Thank You Berry Munch. In addition to going door-to-door, Girl Scouts are utilizing technology to take orders online, and have a Girl Scout Cookie Locator mobile app to drive traffic to their local cookie booths.
