Caboose was open for tours Dec. 8-9.

A few times a year the Herndon Historical Society, with help from community partners, opens the caboose in downtown Herndon for tours.

This past weekend, local residents and passersby were able to see and explore the interior of the Norfolk and Western caboose. Members of the Sterling Park Amateur Radio Club helped give tours as they broadcast from the caboose.

The caboose began on its journey to Herndon in 1989 when Herndon Historical Society member George Moore found it and arranged its installation.

Sitting next to the W&OD Trail, the caboose serves as a reminder of Herndon's rail history. After Moore died in 2003 the caboose was dedicated in his memory.
