Porch lights were on, and courtyards and cul-de-sacs were full Tuesday night as Herndon celebrated National Night Out.

Members of the police and fire departments were out and about greeting residents and educating them about their departments and programs, and how neighbors can help each other create safer neighborhoods.

Neighbors filled tables with all manner of food and beverages and mingled, getting to know one another, while Town officials like Chief of Police Maggie DeBoard; Mayor Lisa Merkel; Town Manager Art Anselene; Councilmembers David Kirby, Sheila Olem, Grace Han Wolf and Melissa Jonas; candidate for Virginia Delegate, Jennifer Boysko; Delegate Tom Rust; Supervisor John Foust and many others made their way from party to party greeting residents.

At each gathering, the Town of Herndon Police Department presented the main organizer with a special certificate thanking them for helping to get the community together.

We will be adding photos to this gallery throughout the day! Have some photos you want to share? Send them to jennifer.vanderkleut@patch.com.
