ALERT: Below-Freezing Temperatures, Freezing Rain Expected During Friday Morning Commute Hours

Advisory could impact morning commute.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a Freezing Rain Advisory, in effect from Friday at 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. that includes Fairfax County.

The NWS advisory notes that the area will see less than one-tenth of an inch of precipitation on the roads, ending by mid-morning. Temperatures will be below freezing until about 9 a.m. and untreated surfaces will be icy and slippery, particularly during the morning commute.

Officials said to be on the lookout for slow-moving vehicles that will be pre-treating roads in the area during evening rush-hour on Thursday.

The NWS cautions drivers to use caution while driving Thursday evening and throughout Friday.

There has been no word yet from Fairfax County Public Schools as to whether this advisory will impact school on Friday.
