Herndon's Big Truck Days Attracts Hundreds

Both children and adults enjoyed a number of big trucks while learning how to cross the street safely

On Thursday, cars circled the parking lot of the Town of Herndon's Public Works Department, in search of a spot to get out and view the many trucks and machines that were on display during Herndon's annual Big Truck Days.

The two-day event offers an opportunity for children, and their parents, to explore at least twelve big trucks and heavy equipment that is used throughout the town. Dump trucks, snow plows and a pink street cleaner, were among those made available.

During the day, a number of children climbed into each one, while exploring the insides. A few horns were tested to make sure everything worked properly. There was also an area where families could control a traffic light while learning how to cross the street safely.

The event will continue on Friday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Public Works Department, located at 1479 Sterling Rd., in Herndon. The event is free although visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation. Refreshments will be served and souvenirs, such as plastic yellow and pink construction hats and coloring books, will be be provided to children.
