Herndon, Metro Area Gearing Up for Bike to Work Day

Registration is open and Herndon has 73 riders signed up to participate in the earth-friendly commuter event

Registration is open for the Wshington, D.C. region’s biggest Bike to Work Day event yet and many cyclists have already signed up, including 73 who plan to check into Herndon’s pit stop.

Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association are offering tools to help cyclists prepare for Bike to Work Day, which will happen on May 20. It’s free to register and the first 9,000 participants who sign up receive a free Bike to Work Day T-shirt and will be entered into a raffle for prizes from Brompton, Giant, Jamis and Linus.

There are 49 pit stops across the region this year, the highest number in the history of the event. Pit stops will offer food and beverages, speakers and chances to win prizes.

Herndon’s pit stop will be held from 5:30 to 10 a.m. on May 20 and will be at the Town Green near the intersection of Elden and Lynn streets, right off the W&OD Trail. Herndon’s pit stop is sponsored by A-1 Cycling.

More than 9,000 people participated last year, leaving their cars at home to bike to work instead. The day promotes cycling as a fun, healthy, environmentally friendly, low cost alternative to driving.
