Herndon Festival Wins International Awards

We all know the annual Herndon Festival is great - but now people from all over the world will know.

The Herndon Festival was recently given two Pinnacle Awards from the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA).

An awards presentation was held last week during the IFEA's 58th annual Convention and Expo in Pittsburgh, Pa. 

The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department, which produces the Herndon Festival, received the Silver award for "Best Festival or Event Mobile Application" and "Best Sponsor Gift." 

The Herndon Festival was judged in a category with other similar events that have a budget of between $250,000 to $750,000.

This professional competition draws entries from among the world’s top festivals and events, in more than 60 different categories.

“We are extremely proud of this recognition," said Cindy Roeder, director of the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department. "To have the Herndon Festival recognized as outstanding among its peers worldwide is a compliment to the hard work of all the staff and volunteers."

Roeder pointed out that, in particular, staff designed the Herndon Festival mobile website "in an effort to be more sensitive to our environmental impact and responsive to attendees’ expectation for smart phone compatibility."

Roeder said planning for the 34th annual Herndon Festival in 2014 is already underway.
