Five Things to Know This Week

A few pieces of information we hope helps you through your week

1. ArtSpace Herndon is to help throughout the day on Sept. 3 for the annual Paint Herndon event. There are volunteer opportunities both inside and outside, and teens can receive credit for their hours. Volunteers are needed at the information, hands-on art, cultural exchange and scarecrow making tents outside. They are also needed inside as docents, to assist with painting completion and to serve cake and ice cream. Multiple time slots are available between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Contact ArtSpace at 703-956-6590 or email volunteer4art@gmail.com.

2. The Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park is trying to reach their fundraising goal this year of $50,000. This is the 50th anniversary of the park and so far $23,411 has been raised. Donations to the park help keep it open and running for visitors throughout the area. See the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park’s .

3. The Herndon High School varsity football team starts its season on Thursday, Sept. 1. Cheer on the High School at 7:30 p.m. on their home turf. The school is located at 700 Bennett Street. Visit http://www.herndonathletics.org for more information.

4. The 5th Annual Jeanie Schmidt Clinic Golf Tournament is this Thursday, Sept. 1 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course. The for the JS Free Clinic, which helps uninsured adults and children receive the care they need. Tickets are $125 per player and include green fees, a cart, beverages, lunch and an awards ceremony.

5. Don’t forget the Herndon Community Center is shut down this week for its annual cleaning and maintenance. The Community Center closed Aug. 27 and will reopen on Sept. 5. Office hours during the week of cleaning will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Residents can still stop by for program registration and to buy passes.
