Five Things to Know This Week

Here are a few pieces of information that may help you through your week

1. There is no Town Council meeting this week. During the summer months the council meets the first two Tuesdays of the month. The council will begin meeting every Tuesday beginning in September. If there is a fifth Tuesday in the month, council does not meet.

2. Farmers Market Fun Days are starting next week. Each Thursday from July 7 through August 11 children can enjoy a show geared toward them on the Town Green from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Shows are free and are just a few steps from the Farmers Market and downtown Herndon.

3. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the opening of Herndon High School. If you haven’t heard of it yet, the school has a Hundred Year Highway brick project, where engraved bricks will be installed at the outdoor sports complex. They can leave a legacy for a student, family or alumni, or they can be dedicated to a loved one or promote a business.

4. The Herndon Braves’ season is in full swing. Check out a game with the family or friends. All home games are at Herndon High School. Tonight they play the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, Tuesday they play the Baltimore Redbirds and Thursday they play the Rockville Express. Most games start at 7 p.m. Check the schedule for updates.

5. This week’s weather will consistently be in the low to mid-80s with scattered thunderstorms on Tuesday. Remember that rain brings mosquitoes. This week is Mosquito Control Awareness Week for Fairfax County. For information on mosquitoes and mosquito control, visit Fairfax County’s webpage.
