Five Things to Know in Herndon This Week

The high temps aren't quitting, and neighborhoods are planning for National Night Out.

1. The hot temperatures the area has seen recently are cooling down just a little, but won’t provide much relief. Temps are expected to be around 90 today with Thunderstorms, 91 on Tuesday, 90 on Wednesday and 94 on Thursday. Friday will continue the trend with a high of 97. Drink water, stay cool and wear sunscreen.

2. If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this week, try . They have free G and PG rated movies at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This week’s movies are How to Train Your Dragon and Charlotte’s Web.

3. Spend your Tuesday night with the . The club meets weekly on Tuesdays at 7:15 p.m. at Tortilla Factory in Herndon. Attendees are welcome to listen, perform and enjoy the evening.

4. Local residents who have college-bound teens may be interested in venturing out to Westfield High School for an informative program, The Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County Public Schools will host the two-hour program on underage drinking beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

5. Next week is National Night Out and Herndon’s police will be helping to celebrate the night. The evening is a chance for Herndon police officers to get out in the community, visiting neighborhoods throughout town, and educating the public on how to help keep their neighborhoods a safer place.
