Local Community Members to be Honored at 2013 Herndon-Reston FISH Fling

Honorees include Claire Dessart, Kay Walter, Peggy LeReche and the Bradley Farm Haunted House volunteers.

A number of Herndon-area community members will be honored at the annual Herndon-Reston FISH Fling Gala and Fundraiser on April 20.

The annual gala will take place at the Crowne Plaza Dulles Hotel in Herndon, and will raise needed funding to help support those in need in the Reston and Herndon communities.

A special recognition ceremony will be held at the gala for several volunteers who work to support Herndon-Reston FISH. They will be honored as Star Fish, and include:

• Claire Dessart, a Bargain Loft volunteer since 2009. She works two to three regular shifts per week and helps often as a sub, even at the last minute. She loves working for FISH and encourages others to shop at The Bargain Loft.

• Kay Walter is a volunteer for the FISH Family Assistance Program, as well as drives people to their medical appointments. She has volunteered for FISH for five years and is always ready to help whenever needed. “FISH is a perfect volunteer opportunity for me because I can do my phone assistance from home,” said Kay. She likes that FISH provides a unique service: Friendly, Instant, Sympathetic Help for our neighbors in need.

• Peggy LeReche has been a volunteer for five years and serves on the Board of Directors. She also works to coordinate FISH Financial Workshops. Her mother volunteers years ago at The Bargain Loft and her volunteer work helps continue her family legacy of volunteerism. Peggy works full time for Dominion Power in addition to helping her neighbors in need.

• The Bradley Farm Haunted House donates all the proceeds from its event to Herndon-Reston FISH. Each October more than 30 community volunteers from the Bradley Farm Homeowners Association, as well as their friends and family, create a scary haunted house. The event is now highly anticipated every fall. Last year the organization included a Spooky Sprint fun walk/run for children.

The FISH Fling Gala is open to the community and welcomes local residents and organizations to support the event through purchasing tickets or becoming a sponsor.
