Empty Bowls Fundraiser to Aid Hunger Relief

For $20 attendees get soup, bread, a beverage and dessert while helping provide food for those in need

Reston’s Giving Circle of HOPE is hosting Empty Bowls, an annual fundraiser supporting hunger relief.

The event will take place Friday, April 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Rd., in Reston. All proceeds from the event will go to Food for Others, which distributes free food to those in need in Northern Virginia.

Attendees pay a minimum donation of $20 and receive a handmade pottery bowl and a dinner of soup, bread, a beverage and dessert. They get to keep the bowl to remind them there are “empty bowls” in the community.

"Last year, more than 600 people participated in this event and we raised $18,000 for hunger relief," said Cathy Waters, chair of the event. "We are able to give 100 percent of the money we receive to Food for Others because of the generosity of our sponsors and donors."

Tickets for the event can be purchased by contacting emptybowls@givingcircleofhope.org, or by calling 703-608-2231.
