UPDATE: Drone Flight Over Herndon Thursday Canceled

An aerial photography drone had previously been scheduled to fly over Herndon to film video footage Thursday.

UPDATE 10:46 A.M.: Today's scheduled aerial photography drone flight over the Worldgate Shopping Center and downtown Herndon has been canceled.

The cancellation was made by the Virginia Economic Development Authority. There was no comment on why the flight was canceled, but the Town said they will let the public know if it will be rescheduled.

If you spot something strange flying overhead in Herndon on Thursday—don't worry, it's nothing to be worried about. In fact, it's pretty cool, actually.

A drone will be flying overhead at two spots in the town Thursday to film footage that will be featured in an upcoming video.

Town spokesperson Anne Curtis said the Town has been working in partnership with the Virginia Economic Development Authority and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority on a video that will promote doing business in the Commonwealth—and now, Herndon will be featured in the video.

Curtis said the drone that will fly overhead to capture aerial footage is about the size of a coffee table.

The drone will fly over Worldgate Shopping Center's parking lot area at 11:50 a.m. for about 15 minutes, and then will fly over the downtown area for about 15 minutes at 12:45 p.m.

Sky Spider Productions is the company running the aerial photography drone.

Members of the public are invited to come to either location Thursday to check out the excitement.
