Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays

Dress up your home for the holidays to take part in the town's contest, then snap a photo and keep an eye out for Patch's holiday home decoration contest!

The Town of Herndon's Cultivating Community Initiative invites town residents to nominate themselves and their neighbors for the annual "Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays" neighborhood decoration contest. The contest recognizes homes and neighborhoods within the town that help put residents in the holiday spirit.

The contest is open to all Town of Herndon residents and nominations should be sent in by Friday, Dec. 9 to information@herndon-va.gov, or by calling 703-435-6800, extension 2084.

The judges panel is comprised of volunteer residents who are members of the Cultivating Community committee. They will circulate throughout the town on Monday, Dec. 12 to determine contest winners. Judges will be looking for decor that's traditional, whimsical, creative and more. Decorations on nominated houses must be easily visible from the street.

Winnners will receive a knock on the door the evening of the 12th and a special sign recognizing their display. Winners will also be recognized by Mayor Steve DeBenedittis and the Herndon Town Council at its Jan. 10, 2012 public hearing.

Additionally, Patch's "Deck the House" will begin on Dec. 8! Local residents will be able to upload photos of their home (residents must nominiate their own homes) for readers to vote on. Twenty-four finalists voted from Patch sites across the nation will have their December electric bill paid (up to $500) and the winner will earn $100,000 for their local schools. Keep an eye out for additional details and contest rules on Dec. 2!
