Advice, Info for Herndon Residents Who Want to Keep Backyard Chickens

Members of the Herndon Environmental Network (HEN!) share knowledge of hen-keeping and encourage residents to write to Town Councilmembers.

Written by members of the Herndon Environmental Network

The Town of Herndon presently allows one pet hen per single-family detached residence. The Herndon Environmental Network supports amending the town ordinance to allow pet chickens in "micro-flocks" of up to six hens, because chickens are social animals. The Town Council is considering changing the ordinance, and we need your help!"

Want to learn more about backyard hens? Take a look at the attached PDF packet for more information, as well as where you can write to our Town Councilmembers to support the changing of the ordinance.

You can also contact our Chicken Committee at chickens@herndonenvironment.com with any comments or questions.
