In Herndon, a woman lost her six-month campaign with the town government for a zoning amendment that would allow her to keep her pet miniature goats. The council rejected the proposal Tuesday.
Kathe Barsotti argued miniature, dwarf or pygmy goats make good pets and provide fresh dairy and brush-clearing abilities. But neighbors, council members and animal experts from Frying Pan Farm Park did not agree.
Meanwhile, over in Fairfax City, after rejecting proposals to allow limited deer hunting within city limits to help control the population, the City Council instead decided to break new ground Tuesday and become the first municipality in Virginia to try surgical sterilization of female deer as a method of culling the herds.
