Community Corner

Town Honors Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Herndon is celebrating its 75th anniversary Wednesday, June 18 at the Dranesville Tavern, 6pm. In honor of the occasion, the Mayor and Town Council of the town of Herndon issued a Proclamation recognizing the Rotary Club of Herndon for 75 years of service to the community.

The Rotary Cub of Herndon has initiated programs such as the “Herndon Rotary Citizen of the Year”, the Senior-Senior Prom, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and advocating for the Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic.  The club has provided support for community programs in our schools and has provided scholarships to High School and Middle School students. The Rotary has also supported the Herndon Festival, FISH, Herndon Relay for Life, and Clean-Up activities at local streams and trails.

Internationally, the Herndon Rotary Club contributes to the Polio Plus campaign to eradicate polio worldwide, donates to “Shelters in Place” for disaster relief efforts, and provides grants for water system development in third world countries.

On June 3, 1939, the Rotary Club of Herndon was established as a charter member of the Rotary International, which originated in Chicago in 1905 and today has over 1.2 million members worldwide.
