Local Robotics Team to Compete in FIRST East Super-Regional Championship Tournament

More than 130 FTC student teams across Virginia designed, programmed and built remote controlled robots to compete in a FTC Robotics game called  “Block Party”, which challenged the robots to collect plastic blocks, raised a flag and hang from an overhead bar for extra points. Of the forty eight teams that qualified for the Virginia State competition on March 1st in Richmond, thirteen were selected to move on to the first ever East Super-Regional Championship tournament to be held in York, PA. Of the 13 Virginia teams our local FTC 519 – ED II team from the Herndon HS Robotics club secured a spot as result of their VA State Championship Finalist achievement. Herndon HS will compete against 71 other championship teams from the various Eastern States including Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. This is only the second time this team has moved beyond the State Championships in the 9 year history of the competition sponsored by For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology (http://www.usfirst.org/). If they place in the next round, they would move on to the National Championships in St. Louis, MO, April 23-25th.  Good luck team!

FIRST has several programs for students from grades K - 12, many are located in the Reston/Herndon area. If you are interested in learning more about FIRST and/or about teams within this area please refer to the FIRST website (http://www.usfirst.org) or contact FTC Team 519 at HHSFTC519@gmail.com.
