Herndon Swim League Scholarship Program

The Herndon Swim League Scholarship Program was started in 1995. It was first started to help a swim league member with a portion of his college expenses. Since then it has grown to award more scholarships to members of the swim league that have graduated from high school and who are moving forward with their academic careers. The Scholarship Program is funded by the swim league through donations and through silent auctions. The silent auction is made up of individual donations and donations from teams in the swim league who collect and donate items to be sold at the auction. With the money that the League makes from the auction, more money can be added into the Scholarship Program so that the number of Scholarship Recipients can increase from year to year depending on how much money is made that year.

Any member of the swim league can apply as long as they are a member in good standing of any Herndon Swim League team, with at least one previous year prior to this season on a league team and being a graduating member of the Class of 2013 from an area high school with a 2.0 grade point average or above.

The list of information that needs to be given to the swim league for a nomination is posted on the Herndon Swim League website. Swimmers are able to look at the website so they can make sure that they have everything in order before submitting their individual nominations. People can also nominate swimmers who they know and who they think are good potential candidates for the program.

There is a list of criteria posted on the league’s website of what the Scholarship Committee will use to select the winners of the scholarship for the year. The criteria include the nominee's dedication and contributions to their swim team over the years, school accomplishments, community service, academics and swimming accomplishments throughout the swimmer’s time in the league.
