Menorah Factory at Home Depot

Have you ever been to the Home Depot building events where kids can make stuff and take it home?

Find out what's happening in Herndonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

On Sunday, December 2, from 2:30-4pm, at the Home Depot in Reston, kids can make their own menorah and learn about Chanukah.  There are going to be a lot of supplies like paint and screws.  The kids can also make dreidels out of clay (like the song).

You can also make oil from real olives using an olive press.  Oil is special for Chanukah because oil was used to keep the menorah lit for eight nights.

Families will also be able try some special Chanukah foods like latkes and chocolate coins/gelt.  Mushka said, "I love the crispy golden Latkas"

Outdoor Chanukah Festival

There is also an event at Lake Anne in Reston on Sunday, December 9 that starts at 6pm.  Everyone will hold a candle and the community lights the huge menorah together.  That is pretty neat to be a part of.  It is made out of solid ice.  Sarah said her favorite part of Chanukah is "The Ice Menorah at Lake Anne".

After, the lighting of the menorah, you are free to go inside the Lake Anne Community Center and enjoy the foods of Chanukah like latkes, donuts, and chocolate coins/gelt.  There will be a movie, arts and crafts, and the Rabbi Fajnland will give out dreidels and help everybody learn more about Chanukah.

Devorah Leah wants everyone to know what she loves about Chanukah are the "presents!!!!"  If you bring a menorah that you made, you might win a present in a raffle.  Even if you do not win the raffle, all kids will get chocolate coins/gelt and dreidels.

If you want to learn more about Chanukah, come to either of these exciting family events.  You can come to both if you want.  Bring your family and friends!
