Classic Car Show, Community Picnic, Book Club Conference With Renowned Author, and More

Looking for a fun way to get active? The Herndon Senior Center, 873 Grace St., will host a free introductory, open-house session of Modern Western Square Dancing this Thursday and next, Sept. 5 and 12, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. All ages from 9 and up are welcome, as well as couples. Following the open house, the fall session of regular classes will begin and runs from Sept. 19 to Dec. 19. For more information, click here to view the event listing on Patch.

 

During this Sunday’s Grandparents Day celebration downtown, during which the Depot and W&OD caboose will be open, don’t forget about the annual AARP Dulles Herndon Classic Car Show! Fun features will include a NASCAR track driving simulator, and a Model T car that will actually be assembled from parts right on the spot and driven away! Many other fun family activities will take place as well. This event is sponsored by the Dulles chapter of AARP along with the Herndon Rotary Club, and benefits George Mason University’s geriatric nursing program. Come one, come all to Trinity Presbyterian Church’s 2013 Community Picnic and Fellowship Fair this Sunday, Sept. 8 from 12-2 p.m. at the church, located at 651 Dranesville Road. Enjoy hot dogs, chips, baked beans and ice cream, as well as a moon bounce and petting zoo for the kids. Are you a member of a book club or a book club organizer? Or, would you like to be? This Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Fairfax County will host a Book Club Conference at the County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. Join book club members from around the area to learn more about starting, running and enhancing book clubs, while networking with fellow readers. Topics for break-out groups will include how to choose a great book, and running a successful book club meeting. The special keynote speaker will be Will Schwalbe, author of the book The End of Your Life Book Club. Lunch will be provided. This conference is co-sponsored by the Fairfax Library Foundation and the Friends of the Reston Regional Library. For more information or to register for this event, click here.
