Our daily briefs, bringing you local Herndon-area news and events at a glance.

CORRECTION: Information in the brief was correct, but the headline was wrong - the Depot and caboose will be open during the Grandparents' Day Celebration this Sunday, not this Saturday.

Parents – there’s a new playground in town! Southview Community Church, 2620 Reston Parkway in Herndon, invites all to the grand opening of its new community playground this Sunday, Sept. 8, to be held immediately following the church’s 11 a.m. services. There will be a free hamburger and hot dog lunch, bounce houses, a giant inflatable slide, and a dunk tank.  Everyone is invited to come, enjoy the fun, and celebrate with them, church staff says. The playground will be open seven days a week to anyone in the community. For more information, visit www.southview.org, or call 703-860-8800.
