Del. Comstock is in an interesting battle in this primary. After portraying herself as a moderateRead MoreRe publican in order to win elections in her moderate state district, she now has had to contend with accusations of not being conservative enough. Did she then reveal her true voting record, which is as conservative as her former running mate, Ken Cuccinelli? The answer: no, not really. Del. Comstock is a master at obscuring her deeply conservative position on the issues, deflecting, and taking credit for politically popular measures that she in fact opposed. What has she really done about issues that concern her constituents? Transportation: she voted against a bill that finally is putting funds to work here in Northern Virginia to relieve traffic congestion. Teacher pay raises, necessary to continue the excellence of our school system: she voted against the budget that contained the funding for those raises. Expansion of the number of places at Virginia colleges and universities for in-state students: she voted against the budget that funded those positions. Healthcare: she voted for measures that shut down health clinics providing low cost health care services to lower income women and families, and continues to vote against the expansion of Medicaid that would provide health care for over 400,000 Virginia residents. As for her "right to work" legislation claim, Virginia's constitution states that it is a "right to work" state, and it would take a constitutional amendment to remove that right (which, in fact, has never been at risk). Look behind the curtain, and even the most cursory examination of Del. Comstock's voting record will show a consistent disregard for the needs of her constituents in favor of adherence to a strict conservative agenda. Don't you want something better for your Congressional representative?
