Red Shoe 5K Laces through Dulles Station
5K Race and Fun Walk raises money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington
Despite the thin layer of snow on the ground, more than 300 people gathered at Dulles Station Sunday morning to participate in the Red Shoe Run and Walk 5K.
The race was sponsored by Airbus and the Special Kid's Fun Run was sponsored by Strayer University. Ronald McDonald was on hand to lead the crowd through warm-up exercises and to cheer the racers across the finish line.
Participants raced through a new scenic course in and around the Dulles Station complex off of Sunrise Valley Drive. This is a newly certified course that was used for the first time during Sunday's race.
Runners came from as far away as West Virginia and New York. The top male runner completed the course with a time of 17:00.2. The top female finished with a time of 17:35.4. About 25 children earned top medals during the Kid's Fun Run.
