This year marks the 29th annual Town of Herndon Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Night.
The event takes place during National Volunteer Week on April 21. The evening in sponsored by the Herndon Town Council to thank the many volunteers who work throughout the year to make Herndon the community that it is.
The Town of Herndon honors volunteers based on nominations from the community in three categories, including Outstanding Volunteers, the Distinguished Service Award and Corporate Service Awards.
Outstanding volunteers are individuals, including teens, who have provided outstanding community service through one or more organizations and a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service. Distinguished Service Awards are given to three adult volunteers and one teen who have made distinguished contributions to the Town of Herndon. Distinguished nominees should have provided extensive community service over several years, or should have volunteered for special projects involving considerable leadership, time and effort.
Distinguished volunteer candidates should have done work with several different organizations and have a minimum of two years of service. Service should be performed in the Town of Herndon or directly benefit the town. Those who have won Distinguished Service Awards previously are eligible to be reconsidered after a 10 year period.

The Town of Herndon will also honor up to two businesses with the Distinguished Corporate Service Award. The business should be located in the Town of Herndon or it's activities should contribute to the promotion of the town or to the greater good of Herndon.
Those nominated for the award should take pride in the Town of Herndon through a partnership with the town or activities that benefit the town and its residents. Nominees should also have a record of supporting volunteerism with employee volunteer programs, volunteer hours, monetary support or by other means. Nominations are being accepted through March 18. They should be submitted to the Town of Herndon's Department of Parks and Recreation by mail, email or fax.
