More Than 800 Particpate in Herndon Turkey Trot 5K
The 5K race was held on beautiful, sunny Saturday and helped collect food for LINK and shoes for the Nike Reuse a Shoe Program
The annual Herndon Turkey Trot 5K was held Saturday with 848 runners registered to participate.
The cross-country style race took place on the Herndon Centennial Golf Course, where earlier in the day the town's annual Gobbler Scrambler Golf Tournament was held. Long-sleeve T-shirts were given to the first 500 participants.
As soon as the results are posted, Herndon Patch will post the winners in each age group category, which include 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. The overall male and female winners receive a turkey and all the trippings.
During the event canned food items were collected for LINK, and sneakers were collected for the Nike Reuse a Shoe Program. This year LINK is hoping to feed 775 families for both the Thanksgiving and December holidays. The shoes will be ground up into small pieces and later used to make basketball courts, track fields, playgrounds, floor tiles and other items.
