Moms Talk Q&A: Hooked on Electronics?

Do you wish your kids would get off their cellphones and log off of Facebook?

Welcome to another week of Moms Talk. This week we’re talking about electronics and how much our families use them.

Herndon Patch Moms Council member Nancy Loughin wants to know when do electronics become too prevalent in our lives?

“Between video games, cell phones with apps, or Facebook, or even Twitter, I feel like a lot of families are feeling ‘disconnected’ from their kids because their kids are plugged in someplace else,” she said.

Loughin said as a result, her family ended up banning cell phones during family meals and events so they could hold conversations without their kids sending and receiving text messages.

In other families it may be the parents themselves—perhaps if one parent has a demanding job that requires their phone be on them at all times. How do you let your children know that while it is important for a parent to stay connected to their phone for work, it’s not ok to be constantly checking in with friends?
