Local Organizations Have Opportunities for Teen Volunteers
Teens looking to get in some volunteer hours over the summer can try these local organizations
Whether it be year round or just for the summer, there are always volunteer opportunities for our teens in the Northern Virginia area.
“We have volunteering anywhere from mowing lawns to tutors,” said Reston Interfaith’s director of communications and outreach, Abby Kimble.
As with any opportunity, it’s of most importance to figure out which volunteer organization and/or position suits you best. Below is a list of resources and opportunities to help you get started.
Reston Interfaith
Lawn Mowers — Opportunites all summer long and ideal for teenagers looking to make an extra buck before heading back to school in the Fall
Reston Festival Booth Hosts — July 9 and 10 at the Reston Festival, an opportunity to interact with the public and help Reston Interfaith with their “mission to help families in need by the thousands of people expected at the festival.”
Volunteer Fairfax
Girl Scout Patch Program — A great way for our teenage girl scouts to earn a Volunteer Fairfax patch and learn about ways to contribute to their community
The Volunteers for Change Program — Young adults will have the opportunity to interact with the community whether it be through throwing birthday parties for underserved children or packing emergency food kits for families in crisis. There are over 55 opportunities each month and all that’s required is one training orientation (which lasts only an hour) at the Volunteer Fairfax office in the City of Fairfax. These training orientations are held monthly. Contact Annie Duffield for further information at aduffield@volunteerfairfax.org.
Fairfax County Public Library
Teen Volunteers — Looking for a quiet place to spend your summer? Volunteering at one of Fairfax County’s public libraries could be the right fit for you.
