Local Cub Scouts Carry On Fun Tradition

Cub Scout pack #158 enjoys an afternoon soap box derby

Not even a forecast of rain could keep Cub Scout pack #158 from Sunday’s scheduled soap box derby.

“This is a tradition we have and it’s all about the boys getting together, racing, having fun, and going down the hill. Doesn’t matter who wins, doesn’t matter who loses. The point is that they’re engaging and having fun” said John Castleberry, Cub Master of the young Scouts from Herndon’s Floris elementary.

An overcast sky began to clear as the first two racers rolled up to the starting line. The count down began as cheers from parents and fellow Cub Scouts erupted in what appeared to be a tradition enjoyed by all involved.

• Editor's note: This article originally referred to the group as Cub and Boy Scouts, but the participants were all Cub Scouts. Additionally, Cub Scouts are not troops, they are packs.
