Herndon to Hold Veterans Day Observance

Observance and Avenue of Flags will be held Sunday, Nov. 11.

The American Legion, Wayne M. Kidwell Post 184, and the Town of Herndon will hold the annual Veterans Day Observance at the Veterans Memorial on the Town Green on Sunday, Nov. 11. 

The Town Green is located behind the Herndon Municipal Center at 777 Lynn St. The observance will begin at 11 a.m. The Herndon community is invited to attend the event. This year's guest speaker is Lt. Col. Debra M. Biely, a retired US Marine. 

The Herndon High School Junior Naval ROTC will form the color guard and present the Colors for the ceremony. The Herndon Womens Club will serve coffee and donuts after the observance, inside the Herndon Municipal Center.

In case of inclement weather, the observance will take place inside the Herndon Municipal Center lobby. 

Additionally, the Avenue of Flags will be on display from dawn until dusk at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Fifty two veteran casket flags will be displayed from the main gate to the side gate. Each flag has a market identifying the veteran. The display can be viewd on foot, or from a vehicle.
