Herndon High Hosts Hispanic Youth Mini-Symposium
Program encourages Latino and Hispanic students to attend college
The Hispanic College Fund and Herndon High School hosted the first innaugural Hispanic Youth Mini-Symposium on Saturday. About 150 students from Herndon High and other areas of Fairfax County attended.
The program educates Hispanic students about the college process, including searching for colleges, applying, finding financial aid and more. Students heard motivational speakers, including comedian Ernie G, and talked with college admissions professionals.
They also heard from Hispanic professionals that have been able to go to college and onto a career during the Hispanic Heroes Panel. Many of the "Heroes" talked about the importance of education, resources for college, persistence, difficulties getting through college and more.
