Herndon and South Lakes high schools will raise money for Reston Interfaith.

The Herndon Hornets and South Lakes Seahawks announced on Friday that they would be raising money for Reston Interfaith through Help the Homeless Walk events this fall.

Each school will see who can get the most participants at their Help the Homeless Walks this October as part of their homecoming celebrations. The announcement was made during the by principals Kimberly Retzer and William Bates.

Through November 4 a number of area schools and organizations will hold Help the Homeless Walks to benefit Reston Interfaith. Those in the Herndon and Reston communities are invited to particpate. This year's goal is 4,000 participants.

There are three ways to get involved.

• Take part in a walk. There will be a walk in Reston Town Center on Oct. 4 hosted by Mayflowers, a walk on Oct. 13 at the Herndon Homecoming Parade, and a walk on Oct. 14 at Reston Heights as part of Festival on the Square.
• Organizations can host their own Help the Homeless Walk. Reston Interfaith can help provide an educational activity that can be part of a mini-walk, picnic or concert. The Reston Interfaith staff will provide support and materials.
• Sponsor area youth to walk. Make sure a child or teen can help end homelessness by sponsoring them to participate in a walk.
