Great Escape: The Monkees

Relive your younger years with 1960s band as they perform live at Wolf Trap

Hey, hey, it’s the Monkees, and what better way to celebrate your Sunday night then by listening to their music live while they perform at Wolf Trap this weekend.

As a little girl I remember watching The Monkees on TV, which featured band members Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz. Together, they cast as a rock band that went on zany adventures week to week.

The show originally aired from 1966 to 1968 and became popular again the early 1980s, which led to a series of reunion tours and new records featuring various incarnations of the band's lineup. The group went on to sell 50 million records worldwide.

The Monkees can still be heard on pop and oldies stations all over. Some of their famous tunes, which made them rock icons, include “I’m a Believer,” “Last Train to Clarksville,” and “Daydream Believer.” Those songs and more will be performed this Sunday, June 19, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased online at www.wolftrap.org.
