Girls Scouts Earn Merit Badges at Aol

Girls learn about careers in technology

On Wednesday, April 13, Aol's Women's Network welcomed 30 local Girl Scouts, ages 10 to 13, who were interested in learning about technology careers at the company.

The teenagers earned merit badges while learning about possible careers in technology and about how Aol women have applied their educations in their careers. Topics included online advertising, marketing and news reporting via Web sites such as Google, Facebook and Patch. The girls also learned about blogging and computer repair, and tested Aol products, such as Just So You Know and AIM.

“JSYK is the bomb,” Girl Scout Ali Flanagan said during the blogging session. Anna Ruffle said she liked the fact that employees were seeking information from the girls. “I liked being part of the development process,” she said. Sara Chan called the program an “amazing experience.”
