Fairfax County Deer Management Program to Hold Public Meetings

Last year the Fairfax County Deer Management Program recorded 815 deer were killed.

Fairfax County is preparing for its 2011-2012 Deer Management Program. The program runs from Sept. 2011 to March 2012.

The county plans to use three population control methods, including archery, managed hunts and sharpshooting. The three methods are permitted by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.  Sharpshooting and managed hunts will happen at selected parks within the county.

Fairfax County will hold public information meetings on the archery program in each district where chosen parks are located. The meetings begin Tuesday, Aug. 9. The closest meetings to Herndon will be held in Reston (Aug. 18) and Chantilly (Aug. 22). See the list of meetings here.
